A second impression of Hasui's Miyajima winter sky design, issued through the Watanabe publishing house. Comparison across the surviving impressions of this composition reveals differences in the sky [bokashi](/glossary/bokashi)—some examples run cooler and bluer, others warmer and more neutral—reflecting variations between printing runs and the gradual wear of the woodblocks over repeated use. The subject, Itsukushima Shrine's floating torii on Miyajima island, was among the most photographed and depicted sites in modern Japan, and Hasui's treatment through [shin-hanga](/glossary/shin-hanga) printmaking translated the scene into a format that emphasized atmospheric quality over architectural precision, distinguishing it from contemporaneous photographic representations.
