Among the later states of this [bijin-ga](/glossary/bijin-ga) design, this impression may show evidence of block wear in the finer detail lines of the woman's kimono or the individual azalea petals, a natural consequence of repeated printing from hand-carved wooden blocks. The composition retains the essential arrangement of figure and garden that made this design commercially viable, with the woman positioned against an enveloping mass of azalea blossoms. In the [shin-hanga](/glossary/shin-hanga) tradition, bijin-ga required close collaboration between the designer, carver, and printer—the delicate facial features and nuanced fabric patterns demanded exceptional precision in block cutting, while the layered floral background required careful pigment mixing to maintain color vibrancy across print states.
