Description
The second state of Hasui's Yoshida snowfall clearing scene is among the earlier documented editions of this composition and may reflect the print's initial publishing run under the Watanabe Shozaburo imprint. In this state, line registration between key block and color blocks would be at its sharpest, and the color pigments — including the indigo blues and warm ochres used for sky gradation — would be closest to Hasui's original design intent. The Yoshida composition depicts the town's honmachi avenue in deep winter, with Mount Fuji visible beyond the rooftops under a clearing post-storm sky. This second edition likely shows fine detail in the snow accumulation on the distinctive eaves of the pilgrimage town's wooden buildings, a detail that becomes less precise as printing generations progress.
