The fifth edition of this Yoshida composition sits within the extended printing history of one of Hasui's most recognized snow subjects. The scene — a perspective view down Fujiyoshida's honmachi street with Mount Fuji at the terminus — was designed to convey both the quiet of a clearing winter day and the drama of Japan's most iconic peak. Across the various states, the key design elements remain constant: the converging lines of snow-banked architecture, the pale sky above Fuji's summit, and the scattered figures of townspeople in winter dress who animate the middle ground.
