Description
Among the later states of the Yoshida clearing subject, this sixth edition represents the extended life of a successful Hasui design in the publishing market. Repeated printing of popular subjects was standard practice in both the original ukiyo-e tradition and the shin-hanga revival. The blocks for this composition were printed across different decades and publishing arrangements, resulting in color variations that collectors and scholars use to date and sequence editions. The compositional strength of the Yoshida design — a strong one-point perspective aligned with Fuji's summit, reinforced by the parallel lines of snow-covered rooftops — remained effective across many printings. Later states sometimes show a slight softening in fine line detail as the wooden blocks accumulated wear, though replacement key blocks were sometimes carved to restore clarity.
