Description
Titled Ishinomaki no bosetsu and published as part of the series Nihon fūkei shū higashi Nihon hen (Collected Views of Japan, Eastern Japan Edition), this woodblock print depicts evening snowfall over the Ishinomaki harbor. The slight variation in the Japanese title from related impressions may indicate a different printing state or publication context within the same series. Hasui rendered the Tōhoku winter port with characteristic attention to reflected light on water and the heavy silence suggested by falling snow. The composition balances architectural and nautical elements—likely fishermen's warehouses, wooden docks, and moored vessels—against a sky rendered in layered indigo and grey through graduated bokashi.
