Description
Inokashira Pond in what is now Musashino City, on the western edge of Tokyo, was a favored subject for Hasui's urban landscape series. In winter, the park's large pond mirrors bare-branched trees and snow-covered banks, creating compositions that balance natural and civic space. Lingering snow at Inokashira typically shows the still pond surface reflecting a pale winter sky, with snow-draped trees framing the water and perhaps a small boat or shrine structure in the middle distance. The lack of human activity in winter snow compositions contrasts with the park's otherwise busy recreational use, lending the scene a meditative stillness characteristic of Hasui's approach to familiar urban sites.
