Description
A printing from the Twelve Scenes of Tokyo series, this impression of Lingering Snow at Inokashira represents a later state or reprinting of the composition first issued under Watanabe Shōzaburō. The Twelve Scenes series was among Hasui's earliest major commissions and established the template for his subsequent landscape series: seasonal views of culturally significant locations rendered in the shin-hanga style, combining Western atmospheric effects with traditional woodblock technique. The Inokashira subject — snow-covered banks around a quiet winter pond — captures the park's melancholy off-season character. Subtle differences in this impression's bokashi handling or ink saturation may distinguish it from earlier Watanabe printings.
