Commissioned for the Nagano Communications Exhibition (長野逓信展), this woodblock print exemplifies the overlap between [shin-hanga](/glossary/shin-hanga) production and Japan's modernizing institutional culture. Hasui's design likely features a recognizable Nagano landmark—possibly Zenko-ji, one of Japan's most visited Buddhist pilgrimage temples, or the surrounding Japan Alps—rendered in his characteristic atmospheric style. Graduation of color through [bokashi](/glossary/bokashi) would evoke the mountain region's distinctive cold light. Such commemorative prints were produced in limited quantities for distribution at regional expositions, situating traditional woodblock printing within a modern promotional economy while maintaining the hand-printing techniques of the shin-hanga revival.
