Description
A fourth recorded state or printing of Hasui's treatment of the five-story pagoda at Ikegami Honmonji, a head temple of the Nichiren sect founded at the site of Nichiren's death in 1282 in present-day Ota Ward, Tokyo. Multiple printings of Hasui's most popular subjects were produced across different publishers and decades, with successive editions often showing variation in bokashi gradations, color saturation, and key-block ink depth as blocks aged. This variant can be distinguished from companion printings through differences in sky tone, foliage palette, or the rendering of shadow beneath the pagoda eaves. The five-tiered structure anchors a vertical composition typical of Hasui's architectural subjects, with surrounding temple grounds or seasonal trees providing a horizontal counterweight to the ascending form.
