Description
A third recorded composition or printing state depicting Shiba Park under winter conditions, this print belongs to Hasui's extensive documentation of the public park grounds around Zojoji Temple. Across multiple Shiba Park designs, Hasui varied his vantage point within the park — sometimes focusing on a tree-lined path, sometimes on a stone lantern or pagoda silhouette, sometimes on the reflective surface of a small pond — while maintaining a consistent atmospheric approach. The shin-hanga process involved carved cherry-wood blocks (hangi) for key lines and separate color blocks, with the printer applying bokashi gradations to sky and water areas. Different printing states of the same design can be identified by changes in key-block condition, color mixing, or publisher's seal, which accumulate across production runs. As an oban-format landscape print, this work likely measures approximately 38 by 26 centimeters, the standard sheet size for Hasui's landscape series published by Watanabe.
