Description
A second composition or printing state in the Tokyo-titled Shiba Park sequence, this print continues Hasui's sustained engagement with one of central Tokyo's most accessible public landscapes. Within Shiba Park, the combination of open sky, deciduous and pine trees, temple architecture, and stone garden elements gave Hasui structural variety across multiple designs. The shin-hanga print process required the design to be broken into component color areas for carving onto separate cherry-wood blocks, with the key-block providing the primary linear structure. The printer applied pressure through a paper pad (baren) against the inked block surface, with multiple passes required for complex color areas. Variations between printing states of popular subjects like this one are often subtle — adjusted paper tone, minor differences in sky bokashi intensity, or changes to the publisher's seal — but can be identified through close comparison of known impressions. This print belongs to the mature phase of Hasui's collaboration with Watanabe Shozaburo.
