Description
Kiyomizu Temple in winter presents one of Kyoto's most beloved views transformed by snowfall — the great wooden stage of the temple's main hall extending over the hillside, its roof and railings blanketed in white, the forested ravine below softened by snow. Kotozuka's print renders this canonical scene with the restraint and atmospheric clarity that characterize his Kyoto landscape work. The temple's position on the edge of Higashiyama, where city and mountain meet, gives the composition its characteristic depth.
