$300–$2,500. Temple scenes are among the most popular subjects for this artist. Good mountain/lake prints: $800–$1,500. Key value factors: Okumura's atmospheric landscape prints are modestly priced. Mountain and lake scenes are most sought after.
Snow at Kinkaku-ji is among the most sought-after sights in Kyoto, occurring only a handful of times each winter when temperatures drop low enough for accumulation. This woodblock print captures the Golden Pavilion blanketed in white, its gilded facade creating a warm contrast against the cold palette of snow and overcast sky. The title's reference to "show" is likely a romanization variant of "snow" (yuki), confirmed by the Japanese characters. Koichi renders the snow-covered garden with areas of uninked paper, allowing the warm tone of the washi to stand in for the white accumulation. The pond, partially frozen or darkened by the grey sky, reflects the pavilion in muted tones. This winter version complements Koichi's spring treatments of the same subject, revealing how profoundly season alters the mood of a single location.
