Description
A maiko is shown from behind and above, her body simplified into a large black silhouette against a mottled grey wood-grain background. Her elaborately arranged black hair is accented with red combs, and a collar of white and red peeks out at her neck while a gold-and-brown patterned obi with a wavy woven motif crosses her back and shoulder; slender orange-red sashes trail from the obi and curl near her hands below. Saito Kiyoshi, Maiko Kyoto (D), 1960, woodblock print.
