The Winter in Aizu bearing the impossible birth-year date of 1907 in the database is almost certainly a recording error—Saito was born that year, making a print by him in 1907 impossible. This is likely one of his many Aizu winter prints made across the 1930s through 1970s, its date field incorrectly populated. The Aizu winter image—massive thatched roofs shedding their snow load, bare trees against a white sky, the essential architecture of his home region distilled—represents his most iconic subject.
