Description
Three helmeted soldiers, rendered as dark silhouettes with rifles (bayonets fixed) slung over their shoulders, wade or march through tall reeds or grasses in shallow water. The scene is dominated by muted grey-brown and pale beige tones, with the reeds' thin blades and seed heads overlaid in dark silhouette across the misty, low-contrast background. The composition is dense and atmospheric, the figures partly obscured by the foreground grasses, giving a hushed, overcast mood; Japanese text and a red seal appear along the right margin.
Following the Dawn Mist, woodblock print by Shiro Kasamatsu.
