Shotei's landscapes are his most widely available works. Signed lifetime editions with strong color and condition represent good collector value. Post-earthquake reprints lacking signatures and seals are common and trade at lower prices.
The evening after snowfall — "Yukiagari no yori" in the title — captures the peculiar quality of light that follows heavy snow: the sky clearing from grey to pale gold or lavender, the accumulated white on rooftops and branches catching and amplifying the fading light, the air unusually still after the storm's activity. Shotei renders this atmospheric aftermath with the precise [bokashi](/glossary/bokashi) gradations that the transitional light demanded, the scene balanced between the darkness of winter and the warmth of the post-storm clearing. Few seasonal effects were more admired in the [shin-hanga](/glossary/shin-hanga) tradition.
