Description
From the slopes above Gumisawa village on the Tokaido, Shotei frames Mount Fuji between the nearer hills and below a sky of atmospheric complexity — not the obvious frontal view but an intimate, angled prospect that suggests the mountain's presence as felt rather than surveyed. The Gumisawa viewpoint was one of many along the old Tokaido highway from which Fuji appeared unexpectedly through gaps in the terrain, and Shotei's treatment honors that experience of discovery.
