Shotei's landscapes are his most widely available works. Signed lifetime editions with strong color and condition represent good collector value. Post-earthquake reprints lacking signatures and seals are common and trade at lower prices.
Lake Shoji (Shojiko), the smallest and most remote of the Fuji Five Lakes, offers a rare combination of intimacy and grandeur — the narrow lake's forested shores giving way to a direct, close view of Fuji's southern face with no intervening terrain. Shotei renders the lake at atmospheric depth, the mountain reflected in the still water while the surrounding forest creates a frame of dark green. The [bokashi](/glossary/bokashi) sky treatment above the mountain suggests changing weather, the dramatic lighting that makes Shoji's views among the most dramatic of the Five Lakes.
