Shotei's landscapes are his most widely available works. Signed lifetime editions with strong color and condition represent good collector value. Post-earthquake reprints lacking signatures and seals are common and trade at lower prices.
From the village of Mizukubo in Shizuoka Prefecture, Mount Fuji appears at evening across the valley floor, its western face catching the last light while the foreground falls into shadow. The evening atmosphere transforms the familiar profile into something more mysterious and personal — not the clear-air monument of midday views but a massive presence absorbing the last warmth of the sun before darkness. Shotei's [bokashi](/glossary/bokashi) treatment creates the graduated transition from orange horizon through deep blue zenith that the scene required.
