Shotei's landscapes are his most widely available works. Signed lifetime editions with strong color and condition represent good collector value. Post-earthquake reprints lacking signatures and seals are common and trade at lower prices.
Catalog number M35 renders spring snow — the wet, heavy snow that falls in March and April on landscapes already beginning to show the first signs of renewal. The spring snow composition exploited the contrast between the tender new growth that preceded it and the returning winter conditions, making it one of the most emotionally complex seasonal subjects in Japanese art. Shotei's [bokashi](/glossary/bokashi) treatment of the falling or fallen spring snow used the heavy, wet quality of the precipitation to soften and unify the composition.
