Shotei's landscapes are his most widely available works. Signed lifetime editions with strong color and condition represent good collector value. Post-earthquake reprints lacking signatures and seals are common and trade at lower prices.
Lake Yamanaka in another version — here with the spelling "Yamamaka" in the title — presents Fuji from the highest of the Five Lakes in a composition that emphasizes the mountain's relationship with the water's surface. The close proximity of Yamanaka to Fuji's base makes the mountain appear particularly large and direct, without the softening distance that the western lakes provide. Shotei's [bokashi](/glossary/bokashi) treatment of the sky above the mountain and its reflection in the water creates the atmospheric depth that transforms the topographic view into an experience.
