Shotei's landscapes are his most widely available works. Signed lifetime editions with strong color and condition represent good collector value. Post-earthquake reprints lacking signatures and seals are common and trade at lower prices.
A pagoda stands in a landscape of heavy snow, its architectural form both obscured and accentuated by the white accumulation — each roof bearing a thick cap that extends the horizontal emphasis of the original structure. Shotei's pagoda-in-snow compositions were among his most frequently produced subjects, the combination of the iconic architectural form and the transforming power of winter weather producing results of great visual elegance. The [bokashi](/glossary/bokashi) sky above the snow-laden tower merges into the white of the accumulated snow in the foreground.
