Description
An open agricultural field stretches across the composition — a subject that speaks to Henmi's grounding in the landscapes of provincial Japan even as he spent much of his adult life as a Tokyo-based printmaker. The field's horizontal expanse offered a compositional challenge that Henmi met through tonal differentiation of soil, crop, and sky, the broad flat ground anchoring a composition that finds its drama in the quality of light across open land.
