Description
A May scene rendered in Henmi's characteristically lyrical, poet's-eye approach to landscape — the month associated in Japan with the arrival of warm rains and the deepening of spring into early summer. Henmi's sosaku-hanga prints were conceived and executed as personal artistic statements rather than commercial products, and even untitled seasonal subjects carry the quality of private notation, a printmaker-poet recording the particular atmosphere of a month.
