A moon subject from the same 2002 dated group, the lunar disc a recurring motif in Japanese art associated with contemplation, transience, and the passage of time. Henmi's interest in the moon extended through his poetic practice — the moon was a central kigo (season word) in haiku tradition — into his printmaking, where the disc of light against a dark ground offered a graphic challenge as well as a symbolic resonance.
