Key value factors: As self-carved and self-printed works, sosaku-hanga value is tied to the artist's reputation and edition size. Larger formats, earlier editions, and historically significant works command the highest prices.
Suiin Fu — "Rhymes and Musical Notes of Water" — was a poetic album that Henmi created in 1942, combining his printmaking and poetry in a single sustained meditation on water in its many forms. This print from the album belongs to a project in which Henmi's dual identity as printmaker and poet merged most completely, the visual images functioning as extensions of lyric thought rather than standalone graphic compositions. Water — flowing, reflecting, falling — was Henmi's most personal symbol, the element through which he understood change and continuity.
