Key value factors: As self-carved and self-printed works, sosaku-hanga value is tied to the artist's reputation and edition size. Larger formats, earlier editions, and historically significant works command the highest prices.
An untitled Henmi Takashi woodblock print. His prints were made through the full sosaku-hanga process: the artist designing the image, cutting the blocks, mixing the pigments, and printing each impression himself. This handmade, personal process gave all of Henmi's work — titled and untitled alike — its characteristic quality of direct encounter between an artist's sensibility and the woodblock medium.
