A scenic view of Arashiyama in Kyoto — the famous mountain district west of the city, known for its bamboo groves, its riverside scenery, and its ancient temples — depicted in one of Chikanobu's landscape works beyond his primary subjects of beautiful women and historical scenes. Arashiyama was among the most celebrated scenic destinations in Japan, its combination of mountain scenery, the Oi River, and the famous Togetsukyo Bridge making it a perennial subject of artistic representation from the Heian period onward.
