Description
Tago Bay on the Suruga coast of Shizuoka Prefecture offers one of the most celebrated frontal views of Fuji, the mountain's perfect cone rising directly above the ocean horizon. The view inspired one of the Manyoshu's most famous poems, making the site loaded with literary as well as visual significance. Koitsu renders the seascape with the mountain's great mass anchoring the upper portion of the composition while fishing vessels rest on the bay below, connecting the eternal view to the daily life of Suruga fishermen.
