Description
Brilliance from 1968 suggests a composition concerned with light at high altitude—the specific quality of mountain illumination that experienced climbers describe as qualitatively different from valley light, clearer and more intense because of the thinner atmosphere. Whether this refers to the brilliance of snowfields in direct sun, the luminosity of a sunset above the cloud line, or something more abstract in Azechi's always partly non-representational style, the title announces an emotional quality rather than a topographical subject.
