Description
The Showa-period Farmhouse from 1951 depicts the rural architectural type that defined the landscapes Azechi knew best—the wooden farmhouse of the mountain village, its steep thatched or metal roof engineered for heavy snow loads, its small windows conceding to winter's demands. The farmhouse as subject located his mountain world in the permanent habitation of those who lived in the high valleys year-round, rather than the temporary occupation of the climber passing through. The building's geometry suited his bold, simplified style.
