Description
Friends of the Mountain—multiple figures united by their shared relationship to the alpine environment—shows Azechi's social vision of mountaineering as community. The friends who climb together develop a specific kind of trust and intimacy, their lives depending on each other's skill and judgment, creating bonds different from ordinary friendship. His bold, simplified rendering of the group likely shows the figures in the proximity of shared endeavor—rope-linked perhaps, or simply standing together at a vantage.
