Description
The hunter—a figure standing apart from but related to the mountain climber, both navigating high terrain through skill and attention—appears in Azechi's work as another variant of his fundamental theme: the lone human in the mountain landscape. The hunter's relationship to the mountain is purposeful and predatory rather than aspirational; where the climber seeks the summit, the hunter seeks the animal that also inhabits the high places. Azechi renders this figure with the same bold simplification he gave all his mountain men.
