Description
Mountain Man and Mountain—the juxtaposition of the human figure and the mountain itself, the subject and its context in explicit relationship—gives Azechi's most fundamental subject matter its most direct compositional statement. The scale relationship between the small human form and the massive mountain behind it was his perpetual theme: not the mountain overwhelming the human, but the human existing within the mountain's world with a kind of belonging that transcended scale.
