Description
Mountain Scene—a broad descriptive title that encompasses the fundamental territory of Azechi's artistic world—represents either a generalized alpine landscape or a specific scene whose particular identification was not recorded. His mountain scenes combined the characteristic elements of the Japanese Alpine environment: the steep ridges, the permanent snowfields, the rocky terrain above treeline, and usually somewhere in the composition the small but persistent human figure that gave scale and meaning to the vast natural world.
