Old Mountain Climber—the experienced alpinist whose years of high-altitude experience had accumulated in the body's posture and movement—was a subject Azechi returned to repeatedly, fascinated by what long mountaineering did to a human being over time. The old climber moved differently than the young one, more economically, with the particular patience that came from knowing that the mountain would wait but the body would not. His simplified rendering captured this quality of earned movement.
