Description
The 1958 Snow in the Valley, edition 3 of 50, shows Azechi's treatment of snow at intermediate elevation rather than on the high peaks—the valley snow that reached even the lower settlements of the mountain world, transforming familiar landscapes into simplified white planes. The valley perspective gave him a different compositional relationship to the mountain than the summit view: the peaks visible above, the snow-covered basin stretching below, the middle ground where mountain and valley life intersected.
