Description
Snow Mountain (雪山)—the snowy peak as archetypal image—is Azechi's most fundamental compositional subject stated in its most direct form. The snow-covered mountain's combination of geometric form and chromatic simplicity suited his bold printmaking style perfectly: the white of snow against the blue-grey of sky and rock, the mountain's mass expressed through the relationship of these simplified tonal areas without the need for descriptive detail. His snow mountains were simultaneously specific and universal.
