Description
A single hooded figure fills the composition, rendered in a bold, angular style with a reddish-brown face, large dark almond-shaped eyes, and vertical striations marking the chin and cheeks; the hood is white, and the figure grips a T-handled tool or ice axe in a gloved hand. Behind the figure, a stylized white bird with a dark eye stands against jagged black, slate-blue, and grey-green mountain forms patterned with cross-hatching and rows of white dots. The palette is limited to indigo-grey, black, white, and rust-red, giving the scene a flattened, graphic, wintry stillness. Signed and dated in the lower margin, with the artist's seal in red. *Winter Mountain*, woodblock print in ink and color on paper, Umetaro Azechi, 1962.
