One of the most iconic designs from One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, and the direct inspiration for two paintings by Vincent van Gogh. A Christie's Online sale in 2014 achieved GBP 11,000 (~$14,000) for a good example.
Kameido Tenmangu, the shrine dedicated to the scholar-deity Tenjin in the Kameido district east of the Sumida River, is depicted here blanketed in snow. The shrine's famous wisteria garden and distinctive arched bridges are softened under a white covering, and the monochromatic palette of winter quiets the scene. This belongs to a series of "Famous Places of Edo" prints surveying the capital's landmarks.
