Description
Mount Fuji rises above a bay or inlet, its mass looming over the water while boats move across the middle ground in this coastal landscape by Yuhan Ito. The view of Fuji from the sea was a perennial subject, established in Hokusai's era and revisited by shin-hanga artists who brought to it the atmospheric printing techniques of the early twentieth century. Ito captures the mountain's commanding presence from the water, its reflection fragmenting in the gentle movement of the bay's surface.
