Description
Mist softens the edges of a temple compound in this atmospheric print by Yuhan Ito, the architecture reduced to quiet dark forms against a ground of pale atmospheric tone. Temple-in-mist compositions occupied a central place in Ito's work, combining two of the subjects he returned to most consistently — sacred architecture and atmospheric weather — into a single image that is simultaneously a landscape and a meditation on the blurring of boundaries between the visible and the invisible.
