A landscape print depicting a rural farmhouse in the Ayashi district of Miyagi Prefecture during autumn. Ayashi, located in the mountains west of Sendai, provided Hasui with a subject combining traditional thatched-roof vernacular architecture with the rich seasonal color of the Tohoku region. Autumn foliage—reds and ochres rendered through multiple overprinted color blocks—frames or surrounds the farmhouse, its heavy thatched roof contrasting with the lightness of the surrounding trees. The composition belongs to the [meisho-e](/glossary/meisho-e) tradition of recording named Japanese places, though Hasui's treatment emphasizes mood and atmosphere over topographic documentation. The print likely dates from one of his northern sketching tours and was produced for the Watanabe workshop in the [oban](/glossary/oban) format, with [bokashi](/glossary/bokashi) gradations in the sky establishing the melancholic quality characteristic of his autumn subjects.
