Rain scenes are Hasui's second most desirable atmospheric category, carrying a 20–40% premium over comparable clear-weather subjects. Rainy Season, Shinagawa (1931) sold for $4,375 at Christie's Online (2020). The bokashi gradation technique used for rain effects demands superior impressions — well-preserved sky gradations add significantly to value, while faded examples lose much of their impact. Pre-war lifetime editions bearing the Watanabe copyright seal (A through G types, 1926–1944) are the most desirable.
Evening Shower at Imai Bridge, published in August 1932, depicts a rain-wet bridge in the summer — the Imai Bridge likely crossing one of the smaller rivers or canals in the Tokyo-Saitama region — under an evening shower that darkens the wooden or stone structure and stipples the water surface with rain rings. The summer evening shower (yudachi) is one of the most dramatically atmospheric weather events in the Tokyo summer, and the bridge subject gave Hasui a compositional anchor for the rain's visual effects: wet stone, darkened wood, rain-marked water. The August date aligns with the height of the yudachi season.
