The Souvenirs of Travel series (First, Second, and Third Series, 1919–1922) represents Hasui's earliest major publishing relationship with Watanabe Shozaburo. Pre-earthquake impressions (before September 1923) are the rarest — the Kanto Earthquake destroyed Watanabe's workshop and most original blocks, making surviving early round-seal impressions exceptionally valuable at $2,500–$8,000. Post-earthquake editions were printed from recut blocks and trade at lower prices.
Kintai Bridge in Suo Province, published in 1924 as part of the Souvenirs of Travel, Third Series, depicts the celebrated wooden arch bridge spanning the Nishiki River at Iwakuni in present-day Yamaguchi Prefecture. The Kintaikyo, first built in 1673, consists of five wooden arches — four supported by stone piers in the river — and is widely regarded as Japan's most beautiful wooden bridge. Hasui's oban composition with its bokashi sky likely places the bridge's graceful arches against the tree-lined banks of the Nishiki River, capturing both the engineering elegance and the wooded landscape that has made this site a perennial subject for woodblock printmakers.
