Description

A narrow street runs between a stone-walled temple building on the left and a stone wall on the right, with a large dark tree spreading across the upper right of the composition. A single figure in a wide round hat walks alone down the path, silhouetted against the pale stonework, beneath a sky that shifts from deep blue at the top to pale green and warm orange near the horizon, suggesting dusk. Kawase Hasui, 1921, color woodblock print, "Kosho Temple, Himi, Etchu," from the series "Souvenirs of Travel, Second Series."
