Description
A third composition in the Kawai Bridge moonlight series, this print likely varies from its companions in the position of the moon, the level of snow on Fuji's summit, or the atmospheric conditions of the sky. Hasui's multiple treatments of a single subject reflect both commercial demand — successful designs were reissued and reprinted by Watanabe — and a sustained artistic interest in how light and weather transform a fixed topography. The Kawai Bridge viewpoint, with the Fuji River running east-west below the mountain's southern face, provided reliable geometric relationships that Hasui could rework across seasons and times of day. Slight variations in bokashi gradation distinguish editions.
