Description
A variant impression of Hasui's 富士の朝 composition, this print presents Mt. Fuji at dawn with the characteristic restraint of his mature landscape style. Differences between numbered impressions of the same design — whether in sky tonality, water color, or ink saturation — reflect the hand-pulled nature of woodblock printing, where each sheet passes individually through the printer's hands. The composition is oriented around the mountain's mass dominating the upper register, with a body of water occupying the lower half and providing a calm, reflective surface. Hasui's treatment of Fuji avoids the overtly symbolic weight found in earlier Hokusai or Hiroshige treatments, favoring instead a quieter, more meteorological register.
